Blossom Fire Company, which is the oldest continually active fire company in Erie County outside of a village, will celebrate its 125th anniversary with a dinner and dance Sunday in Kotecki's Grandview Grove, West Seneca.

The fire company was formed in 1872 in the hamlet of Blossom by 23 local men for the purpose of fighting fires and benevolent acts for fellow members and widows or orphans of the members.

At that time, town boundaries were not the same as they are today, and the Blossom Fire Company extended into the Town of West Seneca.

Today those areas that were once partially protected by the Blossom Volunteer Fire Company are served by the East Seneca, Elma, Southline, Springbrook and Twin District Fire companies.
