CLARENCE MAN ATTACKED, ROBBED; SUSPECT ARRESTED

A 74-year-old Clarence man known for riding an old bicycle in all kinds of weather to collect bottles was punched repeatedly and thrown to the floor during a burglary over the weekend, state police at Clarence reported today.

The burglar entered the man's Ransom Road home at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday, threw him to the floor, punched him several times and left with $60.

Sunday, state police charged Robert Leff, 34, of Greiner Road with second-degree burglary after they said he confessed to the crime.

He later was sent to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $10,000 bail, Trooper Bruce A. Bell said.
