LOCK-DOWN LIFTED AT WENDE

The lock-down in the Wende Correctional Facility in Alden was lifted Saturday for general-confinement inmates, but the 232 inmates in cells for disciplinary reasons were not allowed out for normal exercise periods.

A fight broke out Friday morning in the exercise yard among 16 inmates, resulting in a head injury to an unidentified inmate, who was treated in Erie County Medical Center.

With no trouble Friday night in the 852-inmate, maximum-security facility, general-confinement inmates were allowed out of their cells for meals and other activities, according to the Department of Correctional Services.
