A memorial service Saturday for Clarence E. Gray, 81, of Amherst was followed by private burial in Lancaster Rural Cemetery.
A retired furniture salesman, Gray was born and raised in Lancaster.
He was first employed by Vernon M. Page Office Furniture and then was office manager for William H. Prentice Office Furniture, both of Buffalo.
Gray, a veteran of World War II, served with a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers amphibious unit in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He received the Purple Heart and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, a member of Amherst Community Church and a former member of the golf league of Mother of Divine Grace Catholic Church in Cheektowaga.
Surviving are his wife, the former Jane Bryan; two daughters, Bonnie of Aspen, Colo., and Cynthia Clack of Amherst; and five grandchildren.[plztt]
