A funeral service for Richard E. Schaaf, a retired Erie County corrections officer, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Hoy Funeral Home, 3855 Seneca St., West Seneca.
Schaaf died Thursday (Oct. 2, 1993) in Veterans Hospital. He was 80.
He served with the Army from 1938 to 1945 when he was discharged as a staff sergeant with the E Battery of the 209th Division.
Schaaf was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 150, the National Rifle Association, the West Seneca Auxiliary Police and the West Seneca Auxiliary Police Pistol League. He was a certified pistol instructor and won many awards.
He retired a lieutenant at the County Correctional Facility in Alden.
Schaaf was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille M.
Survivors include a son, Richard of Cheektowaga; two daughters, Carol A. Thomson of Fairhaven, Vt., and Karen L. Gorham of Depew; a brother, John; and four grandchildren.
Entombment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga.
