Buffalo police vice officers joined with four suburban police departments to crack down on escort services Thursday evening. Six women and two men were arrested on prostitution charges.

Both men and five of the women were from Buffalo. The other woman gave an Amherst address. A 17-year-old girl was charged with possession of heroin. one of the women was charged with having crack cocaine.

Buffalo Police Lt. Kevin Kelly said officers made the arrests in rooms in motels and hotels in Buffalo, Cheektowaga, Lancaster, Orchard Park and the Town of Tonawanda. A total of 26 officers representing all the municipalities took part in the operation.

Kelly said police phoned the escort services, which sent the men and women to the hotel and motel rooms. He said that as undercover officers talked with them, the escorts offered to perform sexual acts for a fee. He said the fees ranged from $150 up.

"We've been doing this before " Kelly said, "but the escort services talk to each other. When the detectives get one, the other services quiet down. So we thought we'd do it all in one night."

Kelly said police took action because of complaints that escorts had been stealing from customers.
