Kenneth A. Martin, 60, of James Drive, president of Don's Rent-All on Pine Avenue in Niagara Falls, died Tuesday (Sept. 30, 1997) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack.
He was born in Niagara Falls and graduated from Niagara Falls High School and Erie County Technical Institute.
Martin worked for the Bailey Meter Co. in Syracuse as a meter technician for two years and then moved to Lewiston in 1965.
He was a staff sergeant in the 107th Fighter's Interceptor Wing of the state Air National Guard, serving from 1958 to 1964.
Martin then became a laboratory technician for a few years for the Globar Division of Carborundum Co. in Niagara Falls and worked for several years at the Linde Air Products Division of Union Carbide as a laboratory technician. He was a Yellow Pages account executive for L.M. Berry Co. for two years. Martin was president of Don's Rent-All, which he acquired in 1971.
He served on the board of directors of the Carbon Products Federal Credit Union and was a member of the Pine Avenue Businessmen's Association and Niagara Falls Area Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where he was a Communion deacon and church council member.
An avid bowler, he participated in the John Wilson Church Bowling League at Frontier Lanes and served as a league officer.
Survivors include his wife, the former Shirley Shapiro; two sons, Kenneth A. Jr. and Bradley L.; his mother, Sylvia Martin Ripson of Wheatfield; and a sister, Sally Greco of Youngstown.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Messiah Lutheran Church, 915 Oneida St. Burial will be in Riverdale Cemetery.
