George L. Dunmire, maintenance manager for Mentholatum Co., died Saturday (Sept. 27, 1997) in his home in the Town of Boston. He was 56.
Born and raised in Niagara Falls, he joined the Buffalo-based company in 1964, working in compounding and then in maintenance. With his keen instinct for repairing mechanical devices, he was promoted to maintenance manager in 1975.
Dunmire recently had been a key member of a team bringing the company's new Orchard Park facility on line.
"He was considered the company's goodwill ambassador, as his kindness and thoughtfulness touched the lives of many in a very special way," Mentholatum officials said in a statement. "He had a quick wit and a terrific sense of humor."
A classic-car enthusiast, Dunmire enjoyed restoring cars and was a member of the Country Cruisers, winning numerous awards for his vehicles.
Survivors include his wife, the former Linda Curry; two sons, Robert G. and Kevin L.; a brother, Joseph I.; and a sister, Doris L.
Services were held today in Wurtz Funeral Home, Boston.
