Four state corrections officers were injured at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when a small fight broke out in a mess hall at the Attica Correctional Facility, a state spokesman said.
An inmate attacked a corrections officer with his hands in a mess hall occupied by 270 inmates, said Mike Houston of the state Department of Correctional Services. Three more inmates tried to join the disturbance, which was quelled by the use of a chemical agent.
The injured officers, who suffered cuts, bumps and bruises, were taken to Genesee Memorial Hospital. Houston said their injuries were not life-threatening.
The inmates were moved into a secured yard for decontamination, then were frisked as they re-entered the cellblock, Houston said. A lock-down was imposed at 6:30 p.m., pending the results of the investigation, officials said.
