Mike Collins, formerly of Olean, on Monday was named press secretary of the Republican National Committee.

Collins is former press secretary for Rep. Bill Paxon, R-Amherst, and is currently communications director for the House Commerce Committee.

He will leave the committee Nov. 1 for the RNC, joining another former Paxon aide, Mike Hook, who is chief of staff of the Republican National Committee.

A graduate of the American University and Albany Law School, Collins is a former prosecutor and trial lawyer in Rochester.

Collins, whose father, Joseph E. Collins, lives in Salamanca, was a Western New York correspondent for the former Buffalo Courier-Express in the 1970s and was a political writer for the Salamanca Press.
