Chautauqua County Executive Andrew Goodell and Town of Arkwright Supervisor Jack Dillenburg have signed an agreement for the replacement of the Griswold Road bridge, which has been closed since late May due to structural instability.

The county and the town had been negotiating the funding of the project.

Under the agreement, construction will be started immediately by L.C. Whitford, which had been awarded a $372,876 contract for the project.

The town is expected to hear by Oct. 15 whether it will receive a $200,000 grant to fund the work. If the entire $200,000 is not received, the town may have to pay half of the costs for surfacing and the railings leading up to the bridge.

Meanwhile, construction on the project is expected to move forward this week.
