Eight area youths have received "Doing the Right Thing" awards from the Buffalo Urban League for their work in their churches, schools and community.

The recipients are William Brittain, a junior at Hutchinson-Central Technical High School; Abdul K. Coleman, a senior at Hutch Tech; Tawania J. Fergus, a junior at Hutch Tech; Bridgette Jackson, a junior at Nardin Academy; Kareemah L. Sabur, a sixth-grader at City Honors; Tameka C. Tribble, a 1996 graduate of Riverside High School; Carlissa Turner, a junior at Hutch Tech; and Jennifer White , a seventh-grader at Buffalo Traditional.

The awards were presented Thursday night at the league's annual dinner in the New Golden Nugget. John A. Johnson, commissioner of the state Office of Children and Family Services was the keynote speaker.
