The Tonawandas' Heritage Coalition, a group of historical sites in Tonawanda and North Tonawanda, will host the annual Heritage Days Saturday and Sunday.
Local organizations will compete at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum, 180 Thompson St., North Tonawanda, in a chowder cook-off. The chowder will be available for sale at noon.
On Sunday, seven sites will be open from noon to 5 p.m. for one admission price of $4 for adults, $1 for children. Besides the carousel museum, the North Tonawanda sites are the Railroad Museum, 111 Oliver St., where handcar rides will be offered; the Rivera Theatre, 67 Webster St., where the Wurlitzer organ will be played; and the Carnegie Arts Center, 240 Goundry St., which has a full art collection.
In the City of Tonawanda, the event includes the Long Homestead, 24 East Niagara St., a home of early settlers; the Tonawanda Army National Guard Armory, 79 Delaware St., celebrating its centennial; and the Historical Society of the Tonawandas, 113 Main St.
