Workers in a small market on William Street were fortunate to escape without injury Saturday evening after a youth who had earlier threatened them returned and threw two Molotov cocktails through the front door, police said.
Two beer bottles filled with a flammable liquid were thrown into the William Market at 860 William before 9 p.m., Officer Dan O'Neill said.
"They were trapped behind the counter," O'Neill said of the store employees. "All things considered, they were pretty lucky."
Fire officials said the employees were able to put out most of the fire with extinguishers before firefighters arrived.
Damage was estimated at about $1,000 to the store and its contents.
Store owner Tracey Barrios told police that two other youths were involved.
