SERIES OF TALKS IN WNY WILL TARGET VIOLENCE

The spotlight the week of Oct. 19 will be on a world without violence.

The YWCA of Western New York is sponsoring a series of programs focusing attention on alternatives to violence, beginning with a 7 p.m. presentation Oct. 19 on "Honoring the Peacemakers" in St. John Baptist Church, 184 Goodell St.

Other programs include: Oct. 20, "Community-Based Child Care as a Violence Prevention Strategy," 5:30 p.m., Erie Community College City Campus; Oct. 21, "Safe School Days," 7 to 9 p.m., Grover Cleveland High School and Makowski Early Childhood Center; Oct. 22, "Domestic Violence and Its Impact on the Workplace," 7:45 a.m., Pfeifer Theatre, 681 Main.

Oct. 23, "Facing Violence Among Men," 6 p.m., Buffalo and Erie County Central Library; Oct. 24, "Eliminating Racism and Hate Crime" poster and essay contest awards, 4 p.m., downtown YWCA, 190 Franklin St. and Oct. 25, "Heal the Hurt Walk," 11 a.m., starting at Sisters Hospital.
