Mary W. Van Allen, 65, of Williamsville, a certified social worker and mental health professional, died Friday (Sept. 26, 1997) in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital in Amherst after a brief illness.
The former Mary Weppner graduated summa cum laude from D'Youville College in 1954 and received her master's degree in social work and mental health administration from the University at Buffalo.
She was a counselor in family therapy for Catholic Charities and an assistant professor in the UB Graduate School of Social Work.
As a senior public health social worker, she was a consultant to the state Health Department. She also served as the clinical director of the Erie County Mental Health Services Corporation II and was the former supervisor of adoptions for the county Social Services Department.
She was a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Mental Health Association of Erie County.
She also was vice president of Van Allen Real Estate.
Survivors include her husband, Benjamin C.; a daughter, Lisa; one son, Benjamin C. III; and a brother, William G. Weppner of Memphis, Tenn.
A Memorial Mass will be offered at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Newman Center, 490 Frontier Road, Amherst. Interment will be in Forest Lawn.[ulrch]
