Lyle Dietzman, 65, a foster parent for more than 30 years and former Clarence dog control officer, died Friday (Sept. 26, 1997) in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Warsaw, he played football and attended Warsaw High School, graduating in 1951.
Dietzman served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
In 1961, he married Joan Schlottman, and in 1962 they moved to Clarence, where they owned and managed the Park Plaza Hotel on Main Street. Dietzman also was employed at Gulf Oil Corp. for 15 years.
He and his wife opened up their hearts and home, providing care for more than 50 foster children for the past 30 years.
He retired in 1992 after 20 years as Clarence dog control officer.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in G. Brian Roberts Funeral Home, 8630 Transit Road, Amherst.[ulrch]
