Herbert L. Raff, 83, a former longtime resident who was a retired employee of the former Upson Co. in Lockport, died Thursday (Sept. 25, 1997) in Newfane Inter-Community Memorial Hospital.
He retired in 1964 as a forklift operator at Upson and then worked part time at the former Bell's IGA in Lockport.
Raff served as an Army staff sergeant during World War II.
He especially enjoyed woodworking. He moved to Center Street in Burt in 1996.
Raff was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Mary Powers Raff; three sons, Roger and Kenneth, both of Middleport, and Richard of Burt; two sisters, Violet Martin of Newfane and Betty Silsby of Lockport; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Rutland-Corwin Funeral Home, 2670 Main St., Newfane. Entombment will be in Glenwood Mausoleum, Lockport.
