State Sen. John Kuhl Jr. pleaded guilty Thursday to a drinking and driving charge, was fined $590 and saw his driver's license revoked for six months.

The 54-year-old Republican of Hammondsport in the Finger Lakes region was found early Wednesday sleeping behind the wheel of his car with the engine running in a residential area of Corning and was arrested, Corning police said.

Kuhl was charged with driving while intoxicated and having a blood alcohol content above .10 percent, the legal limit.

Police said they were responding to a complaint of a radio being played in the middle of the night when they discovered the senator.
