A groundbreaking ceremony for a medical office building that stirred political controversy earlier this year has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday.
Riverfront Medical Center, a 16,800-square-foot building, will be located on a vacant five-acre parcel on River Road in North Tonawanda, across the road from Recreational Warehouse.
It will be owned by RER, which is owned by Robert J. Rezsel and his daughter Elizabeth, both physicians, and his son Robert II, a dentist. They will occupy 38.5 percent of the new building's space, and rent the rest to other medical professionals.
The Reszels obtained $2.5 million in industrial revenue bond funding and a 10-year property tax abatement from the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency in June, after a bitter battle which involved several major North Tonawanda political figures.
The building is to be constructed by Calamar Enterprises. Applications to the IDA said 30 existing jobs would be retained and 27 new ones created by the project.
