PATAKI NAMES BUFFALO MAN TO POST

John Johnson, a former Erie County youth services commissioner, was sworn in by Gov. Pataki Wednesday as commissioner of the new State Office of Children and Family Services.

Johnson will lead an agency formed by merging family and children's services formerly run by the Department of Social Services with programs of the former Division for Youth. Since 1995 he had been the director of DFY, which runs the juvenile detention facilities in the state.

Johnson, who lives in Buffalo, will be paid $102,000 in the new post.
