MOTORIST, TRANSIT OFFICER HURT WHEN CARS COLLIDE

A motorist and a transit police officer were hurt Wednesday afternoon after their vehicles collided at the intersection of Masten Avenue and Best Street.

Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority spokesman Harry Spector said Officer Vincent Haaland of the NFTA police was responding to a call when he collided with a minivan driven by Kimberly Harmon, 32, of Oxford Avenue. Spector said Haaland approached the intersection with his siren and lights operating.

Neither victim's injuries were considered serious.

Spector said Ms. Harmon was ticketed by NFTA police on charges of failure to yield the right of way and no seat belt.
