The Buffalo Wings aren't quite out of the playoff picture yet.

The Wings avoided elimination from the Eastern Conference playoff race Wednesday night when they defeated the Ottawa Wheels, 5-4.

The win moved Buffalo's record to 6-13; the team is at the .500 mark since starting the season 0-7. With five games left on the schedule, the Wings are six points behind both Ottawa and the Montreal Roadrunners.

Mike Burman was the main hero for Buffalo. His goal -- his second of the game -- with 4:06 left broke a 4-4 tie, and the Wings held off the Wheels the rest of the way.

Chris Palmer -- who earlier in the day had been named player of the week in Roller Hockey International -- had a hand in all five Buffalo goals with one goal and four assists.

Ken Blum and Ziggy Marszalek also tallied for the Wings.

Buffalo returns to action Saturday night, with a home game against Montreal.
