I don't smoke or drink much alcohol, so a "sin tax" would not really affect me. But why should residents be taxed to provide a means of maintaining or increasing salaries for players who are grossly overpaid already?
The main reason ticket and TV revenues are not adequate to pay for the lease and improve the stadium is that the players' salaries have escalated to the point where they are confiscatory. Taxpayers who cannot afford the outrageously high prices for tickets should not be forced to contribute to improving players' salaries when they cannot even afford to see them play.
