COMPOSTING OPERATION STILL CLOSED TO RESIDENTS

The composting operation on Buffalo's Squaw Island landfill will remain closed to residential users for another month, Parker Bay Consultants, contractor for the operations, announced Wednesday. It will be open to city vehicles and paying customers.

The Squaw Island operation was closed to residents in July because of construction work with heavy equipment in the landfill, which resulted in several near-accidents in June. A decision on whether to reopen the facility to the public in September will depend on how much work is completed in August.
