AREA BUSINESSMAN FINED FOR DUMPING DEBRIS

An area businessman was fined $7,500 Wednesday after he was found guilty of illegally dumping construction debris following a non-jury trial in City Court.

George J. Wolf Sr., 58, of Swann Road, Lewiston, was convicted of a disposing of solid wastes in an unauthorized facility by Chief City Court Judge Mark A. Violante, who then issued the fine.

Wolf was arrested on May 10, 1996, after he was accused of having his company, Niagara Vest Inc., dump more than 10 cubic yards of debris from demolition projects -- some of which he did for the city -- on property and inside two buildings it leased between 1501 College Ave. and 3625 Highland Ave. in early 1996.

The charge he was convicted of is a misdemeanor under the state's Environmental Conservation Law. Wolf also was convicted of operating a waste facility without a permit in Lewiston in 1995 and was fined $6,000.
