Willie Thomas, a retired Olin Chemical Corp. employee, died Sunday (July 27, 1997) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a long illness.
Thomas, 79, of 13th Street, was born in Carter, Miss., and moved to Niagara Falls in 1943.
He worked as a furnace operator at Union Carbide Corp. until 1968. He then worked as a chemical operator for 20 years at Olin Chemical. He retired in 1988.
Thomas enjoyed gardening, spectator sports and spending time with his family.
His wife, Charleaner Glover Thomas, died in 1996.
He is survived by a son, David Glover; a daughter, Sonya Byrd; two brothers, Sam of Memphis, Tenn., and John of Indianola, Miss.; a sister, Emma Mae Reed of Chicago; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at noon Thursday in Williamson Funeral Home, 635 Main St. Burial will be in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston.
