SZCZERBINSKI ENTERS RACE FOR CORONER

Leon Szczerbinski of North Tonawanda, who was appointed to the vacant 2nd District coroner position by the Niagara County Legislature May 20, has announced his candidacy for a full four-year term in the post.

The district covers North Tonawanda, Wheatfield and Pendleton.

Szczerbinski, 42, is the endorsed Democratic and Conservative candidate. He has been a member of the North Tonawanda Fire Department for 17 years, and is currently a truck driver at Engine 6 on Ward Road. He is also president of the North Tonawanda Professional Firefighters Association, Local 1333.

He will face Joseph V. Mantione in a Sept. 9 Democratic primary and again in November, since Mantione is the
Republican nominee.
