So the city is conducting a state-funded study about putting vehicle traffic back on Main Street downtown. I already know what the city needs to encourage people to come downtown -- they need a place to shop.
AM&A's sells out to Bon-Ton, which promises to keep the flagship store open but closes it within a year. Now Woolworth's is closing. And the Main Place Mall has lost many stores.
I work and shop downtown. Sure, the peak hours that people shop are few. But those of us who work downtown would like to shop on our lunch hours or after work so that we don't have to go out again. What Main Street needs is retail stores -- not cars, trucks and buses.
