DON'T LET DOGS ROAM FREELY IN PARKS

This summer I've noticed that an increasing number of dogs have been allowed to roam freely, without a leash. Do these dog owners realize that they are breaking the law?

Twice within the past month, I have been chased by a dog while rollerblading. It's very difficult to keep your balance when a dog is jumping all over you.

During both of these incidents the dogs had to cross the street to get to me. The first time, the owner retrieved the dog. But the second time, the dog owner was nowhere to be found. Luckily, I wasn't injured. But the dogs could have been hit by a car.

Local police should step up enforcement of the leash laws.

Another thing I've noticed is the amount of dog feces left on the streets and grass. Just check out John C. Stiglmeier Park in Cheektowaga.

Pet owners need to be more considerate of people who are just trying to enjoy their summer. They should chain their dogs and clean up their mess.
