A would-be burglar who was armed with a knife died in a struggle with the owner of a Staten Island home he invaded early Saturday, police said.
Homeowner Thomas Spinelli, 43, was dozing in his den just before 1 a.m. when a noise awoke him, said police spokesman Officer Arek Tarih.
He called to his wife to alert police. While officers rushed to the house, the homeowner confronted the invader in the kitchen, according to the Staten Island Advance.
Spinelli struggled with the knife-wielding suspect, who was stabbed and collapsed in the home in the Todt Hill section, the Advance said.
The 23-year-old unidentified intruder died within 90 minutes at nearby Staten Island University Hospital, the police spokesman said.
