Recently I rented a movie entitled "The Spirit of St. Louis," starring the late Jimmy Stewart. It was one of the finest Stewart movies ever made, and it helped make his passing easier to take. In the movie, he plays the part of Charles Lindbergh, the first person to fly solo over the Atlantic Ocean. His nickname: "Lucky Lindy."
The Buffalo Sabres just hired a new coach who just might turn out to be their own "Lucky Lindy" -- Lindy Ruff. In fact, he will have to be very lucky to improve the Sabres from last season's showing. It will certainly be a tall task replacing a sort of "folk hero" in this town, former coach Ted Nolan. Perhaps Ruff will carve out his own niche and become our own "Lucky Lindy" and make people forget all about Nolan. Lucky him, and lucky us! Let's make Mr. Stewart look down on us in delight this fall. Mr. Ruff doesn't even have to fly over the ocean, just a few trips over land.
