Thirty-two percent of tourists in Las Vegas in 1996 were visiting the glitter city for the first time, according to a study by the Convention & Visitors Authority, which said the new-visitor figure has increased by 10 percent annually since 1994.

And how much did people spend? The average tourist's gambling budget last year was $580, compared with $446 in a 1993 survey. The study also showed that 13 percent of visitors did not gamble at all while there.
