Clovis Thomas, 39, of 1016 South Ave. pleaded innocent Friday to a second-degree assault charge in City Court after he was accused of beating another person with a rock on July 12.
Thomas was granted an adjournment until Aug. 4 to hire a lawyer. His bail was set at $1,000.
He is accused of chasing Calvin Sewell of Niagara Avenue from Unity Park to Highland and Fairfield avenues where he allegedly struck him from behind with a rock at least four times. Sewell received treatment at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for his injuries and received seven staples to close a wound to the back of his head, police said.
