A pipe bomb was used to blow up a change and towel dispensing machine at 12:30 a.m. Friday at the Niagara Power Wash, 1102 Whitney Ave., Detective Carl Beak said.
The suspect, however, was not successful in stealing any money from the damaged machine, Berak said.
"The suspect detonated the pipe bomb, but got no money (from the machine)," Berak said. He added that the suspect did steal some towels used to dry off cars.
Identification Officer Patrick Donohue collected the remnants of the bomb for evidence. Officer David Kinney did the initial investigation, Berak said.
