Although the Springville-Griffith Institute School Board does not anticipate hiring a new school superintendent before the Sept. 3 opening of school, it does expect to have a "short list" of candidates by next

"The board had 25 applications for the job," said board Clerk Judy Breslin, adding the board is selecting finalist candidates while consulting with BOCES Superintendent Lionel R. "Skip" Meno.

"When it has them, it will begin a round of interviews with each candidate. Then it will have them meet with community representatives before making its selection."

Mrs. Breslin said that most of the hiring and other preparations for the new school year were completed while former Superintendent Dean Bettker was still on staff.

Interim superintendent is Richard Gloss, who held the post in Brocton before retiring.
