A mother who left her 5-month-old son strapped in a sweltering car while she went inside her house to watch "Beavis and Butt-head Do America" turned herself in Thursday on a child-neglect charge.
Prosecutors say Pamela LeBlanc's son, Michael, was left severely brain-damaged from temperatures estimated to have reached 120 degrees inside the car.
Mrs. LeBlanc, 35, a security guard at Kennedy Space Center, told investigators that she could not explain why she forgot her child June 18.
"She didn't commit a criminal act," said Lou Cianfrogna, her attorney. "It was totally unintentional. She's devastated. It was a tragedy, but it was not a criminal act."
Police said Mrs. LeBlanc watched the 90-minute cartoon video with her husband, made phone calls and washed dishes before she realized that she had left her son in his car seat and called paramedics.
