Barbara Pickard Sirvis, dean of Buffalo State College's Faculty of Applied Science and Education from 1986 to 1992, has been named the seventh president of Southern Vermont College in Bennington, Vt.
Vice president for academic affairs at Brockport State College for the past five years, she will assume the Southern Vermont College presidency Aug. 25.
"The Southern Vermont College community is impressed with Dr. Sirvis and her understanding of the many facets of a college environment," said interim President Bill Wesley.
"From strategic planning and budgets to academic programming and student services, her hands-on, in-the-trenches approach will be a welcomed motivating force," he added.
Ms. Sirvis holds a doctorate in special education from Columbia University, where she also received a master's degree in education. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon and is also a graduate of Harvard University's management development program.
