Donald B. Griswold, 70, an artist and retired Erie County sheriff's deputy, died Thursday (July 24, 1997) at Mitchell Campus of Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, after a long illness.
The Buffalo native worked for five sheriffs over a period of 32 years until his retirement in 1990. He worked in the identification department at the time of his retirement.
A resident of the West Side, Griswold was known for his work in watercolors and painting of buildings and boats.
Survivors include his dear friend of 26 years, Katherine Kirkendall; two daughters, Catherine M. of Baltimore and Patricia L. Ventura; a son, Donald of Houston; and four grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held Monday.
