She can turn the world on with her smile. But can she block a beaver trapping bill before the State Legislature?
Mary Tyler Moore wrote a letter to state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, asking the Manhattan Democrat to kill a bill that would legalize underwater snare traps for beavers.
Moore, a longtime animal rights activist, wrote to Silver that the nooselike traps could end up killing a host of animals.
"I appeal to you to choke and strangle this proposal instead of our friend the beaver and animals such as the bald eagle, dogs, calves and otters, which have been caught in these traps too," Moore wrote.
Neither New York's Assembly or Senate has voted on the bill this session.
