The Town of Dunkirk has approved an environmental assessment form and reviewed site plans for a proposed Cracker Barrel Old Country Store on Vineyard Drive in the Town of Dunkirk.

The board declared the project will have a negative environmental impact under the state Environmental Quality Review Act. One requirement of the project is for the developer to install a water retention pond at the rear of the site.

This is the second attempt to construct a Cracker Barrel restaurant on Vineyard. The new site is about 100 yards from one proposed last spring.

The first attempt to bring Cracker Barrel to Dunkirk fell through when company executives decided against purchasing the property.

Cracker Barrel is a Lebanon, Tenn., firm.
