Ham radio enthusiast Richard Ruston of North Transit Street died Tuesday (July 22, 1997) in Lockport Memorial Hospital. He was 79.
Ruston was a 40-year member of Lockport Amateur Radio Association and for eight years was a member of the board of directors of the Niagara Orleans NDXARC Club, an organization of ham radio enthusiasts. His call numbers were WA2MZU.
He retired as a maintenance engineer and electrician for the hospital. Ruston was a World War II Army veteran.
In 1991 he received the VIA Award for his volunteer work with the Eastern Niagara County United Way.
He was the widower of Doris Ruston and Helen Ruston.
Survivors include three sons, Wilbur of Texas, and Charles and Roland, both of Reno, Nev.; five daughters, Ruth Miller of California, and Doloros Stinson, Debra Lewis, Mary D. Abraham, and Darlene Weese; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Gaul Funeral Home, 263 East Ave.
