East Aurora's annual Race Day Reunion weekend gets under way at 7 p.m. Friday with a beer-tent reunion party for graduates of East Aurora High School and friends at Firemen's Field.
The event is sponsored by the East Aurora Rotary Club. The schedule includes:
Saturday -- To commemorate the village's equestrian-era history, the East Aurora Driving Society will hold the Carriage Drive Competition at Knox Polo Field off Knox Road. The event continues through Sunday.
Also featured are a sidewalk sale and exhibition along upper Main Street, an old-timers' baseball game at Hamlin Park, a 5K run and walk sponsored by Fisher-Price, a magic show, a car wash and a "chalk walk."
Sunday -- 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Aurora Historical Society will be host to its first Racing Day Brunch and Exhibit at the corner of Girard Avenue and Buffalo Road, featuring a display of horse-racing memorabilia.
Organizers say the event will focus on the village's reputation as the "trotting mecca of the world" in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Light classical music will be presented by the Trillum Trio. Tickets for the brunch are available from local merchants.
12:15 p.m. -- Carriage Drive Parade, from the Knox estate along Girard Avenue, featuring more than 20 buggies and carriages owned by members of the East Aurora Driving Society.
1:30 p.m. -- Sulky Race Post Parade on Girard Avenue. Immediately following are the traditional Sulky Races, featuring four heats, with starting gate at the intersection of
Girard and North Grove Street.
3 to 7 p.m. -- Concert featuring Silver X-Treme at Fireman's Field, sponsored by the Boys' and Girls' Clubs.
