After three games in Iowa, the Buffalo Bisons are still looking for their first win this series at Sec Taylor Stadium.
Iowa's Brant Brown helped deny the Bisons on Wednesday as he hit a pair of homers, including a grand slam, in the Cubs' 7-4 win.
Brown, who began the season with the parent Chicago Cubs, homered in the second and eighth innings, his ninth and 10th of the season.
The Cubs have outscored the Bisons, 19-5, in the series that concludes tonight (8:15 Radio 550). The fewest runs the Bisons have scored in a four-game series is 13.
The Bisons' luck looked as though it might change when they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. With one out, Torey Lovullo homered and Bruce Aven scored on Jeff Manto's single.
Manto extended his hitting streak to 10 games. During the streak, Manto is batting .400 (14 for 35) with five home runs and 12 RBIs. Manto has hit safely in 18 of his last 19 games. He ranks third in the American Association in home runs (20) despite not joining the team until June 6.
Buffalo took a 3-0 lead in the second on Mike Busch's solo homer off Dave Swartzbaugh.
The Cubs rallied for five runs in their half of the second. Chris Petersen's single scored Terrell Lowrey and Brown capped the rally with a grand slam off Marcus Moore.
Swartzbaugh (6-4) went five innings, giving up three earned runs.
Moore (2-1) allowed five runs, only one earned, on seven hits in 7 1/3 innings.
Buffalo looks to salvage the final game of the series by sending Ben Blomdahl (5-6, 5.02) to the mound. The Bisons open a nine-game homestand on Friday against Nashville.
