Gordon B. Chilcott, a Orchard Park dairy farmer who lived and worked on Cloverdale Farm nearly all his life, died Tuesday (July 22, 1997) in his home after a short illness.
Chilcott, 89, had formally retired in 1973 but continued to work on the farm with his family members.
Born in Orchard Park, he was a graduate of Orchard Park Central Schools. As a young man, he worked at Yates Farm in Orchard Park, where he purchased and began raising the Holstein dairy calves that eventually formed the stock for his own farm.
During World War II, he began working at Bethlehem Steel Corp. as a foreman. He worked there for 10 years.
A member of the Erie County Extension Service, the state Farm Bureau and the Orchard Park Historical Society, Chilcott was well read and enjoyed boating, traveling and gardening.
Surviving are his wife, the former Betty Taylor; his son, Alton, both of Orchard Park; a daughter, Gail Bartes of Friendship; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held today in F.E. Brown & Sons Funeral Home, 6575 E. Quaker St., Orchard Park. Burial was in Quaker Cemetery, Orchard Park.
