He once promised to party like it's 1999. Now he says he'll keep touring until then.
The formerly media-shy entertainer known variously as Prince or the Artist held a news conference Tuesday to announce a world concert tour that will stretch through 1999 and end with a big show in a secret location.
Along the way, he'll be joined by No Doubt, George Clinton, Carlos Santana, Chaka Khan and Lenny Kravitz.
The Artist said the tour actually began Monday in Detroit. Other dates won't be announced until a week or so before each show to discourage scalpers.
As Prince, he once roared onto concert stages on a purple motorcycle. The singer is now going for a stark stage set and minimalist approach.
"I've been known to have some spectacles in my day and I wanted to get away from that vibe and do one tour that basically featured me," he said.
