Carolyn Dorin-Ballard led the qualifiers for tonight's stepladder finals of the $65,000 LPBT Berkeley Invitational in Goose Creek, S.C. Dorin-Ballard had a 20-11-1 match play record and 10,221 total pins, 61 pins ahead of runner-up Dede Davidson, who had a 20-12 record.

Liz Johnson of Niagara Falls earned the fifth and final spot in the finals with a 20-12 record and 10,090 pins.

Pete Couture expanded his lead to 213 pins after the fourth round of the PBA's Showboat-Boise (Idaho) Senior Open.

Couture knocked down 8,106 pins for the lead.

Welch was contacted in Africa, informing him of the misdemeanor battery charge. Welch faces up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $5,000 if convicted.
