JAMESTOWN -- MRC Bearing Services will close its downtown office at 315 N. Main St. next spring.
The change will result in the loss of 32 jobs in the city. The company said the decision was made as part of a corporate consolidation.
Some of the jobs will be relocated to King of Prussia, Pa., where its parent company, SKF, has its U.S. headquarters. Others may be consolidated into the company's manufacturing plants in Jamestown or Falconer.
Mayor Richard Kimball said Tuesday, "I was not aware of the decision, but I suspect it was a corporate move, similar to what Alltel has gone through and other companies. There is nothing that the city or Department of Development can do in a case like this when we are not apprised until after the fact."
