A man was sentenced Tuesday to at least eight years in prison for a fatal knife attack on his mother.
Sehul G. Tareke, 22, of Syracuse, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the Feb. 9 attack on his mother, Meseratch Zecharias.
His family agreed to the plea bargain to avoid a trial and have said Tareke is emotionally disturbed.
As part of his sentence, Tareke will undergo psychological counseling. The maximum he could serve is 16 years.
Tareke had been charged with murdering his 51-year-old mother in their home.
