The Town of Cheektowaga plans to bond more than $1.2 million for storm and sanitary sewer work for the southwest section of town, officials
announced this week.
The Town Board this week hired La Bella Associates of Rochester for $60,000 to design a storm sewer outlet from Dingens Street along Harlem Road, under the Thruway and into Cayuga Creek, east of Harlem.
The work -- estimated at $800,000 -- will be financed through a townwide drainage district bond and will coincide with the state's reconstruction of Harlem Road, from William Street to Clinton Street, beginning in the spring of 1998, said Councilman Thomas M. Johnson Jr.
Storm sewers must be extended along Dingens, where flooding has been a problem since the Thruway was built, Johnson said. Little drainage relief was available since there was no place to take the water, Johnson added.
The town, in addition to this storm work, will spend $400,000 to repair long sections of deteriorated sanitary sewer pipe beneath Harlem Road.
